NEW PARENT RESOURCES

Welcome New Families & Parents!
WE ARE SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!

There is so much to know when you are starting at a new school! We have put together this page to hopefully, make it as easy for you as possible! Never fear, we were all in these same shoes at one time. It may seem like a lot of information, but before you know it, you will feel right at home. We are so glad you are here and if you have any questions always feel free to call or email the office.

Here is a list of of some logistical things that you will want to take care of after enrolling and before your first day!

Uniforms: Yes, you’ll need a uniform! This need not be a big expense! We have a uniform swap at the beginning of each school year and all information about ordering can be found here. Uniform Information

Supplies: Here is a link to the supply lists for each grade. Supplies

School Lunches: Check the website for lunch information. How much, how to pay, and what is being served for the month can be found here. We are a federally funded lunch program and follow the same protocols for lunch discounts. Lunch Information

Paperwork: Please check in at the office to make sure you have all of your paperwork in. We must have registration paperwork and tuition agreement for your student to start school. Please also provide a copy of your child's most recent immunization record. If your student is transferring from another school, please make sure you have signed a records request.

Here is a look at what to expect on the First Day of School!

Start of the Day: The school day begins promptly at 7:55 am. If your child is in elementary school, drop him/her off in front of the school. If your child is in middle school, drop him/her off along the side of the playground by the Hauser building. You may drop your child off as early as 7:30 am at the main entrance to the school. We offer a school breakfast at this time. At 7:45 am the bell rings. All of the students are expected to be outside (or in the gym during inclement weather) at this time. At 7:50 am the second bell rings. This signals students to line up to go in to school. Class will start at 7:55.

Lunch: Have you looked on-line at the lunch calendar for the week? Take a look and make plans for your child to have hot lunch or pack your own! Help your child have a healthy meal and snacks for their first day of class.

Coffee with the Principal: Join other new parents in the cafeteria/gym for a  quick cup of coffee with Mr. Chick. He will answer any questions you might have and make sure that this new transition is a smooth one! If you are joining us mid-year, we hope you will also take a moment to  stop in the office and ask any questions you might have.

After School: Your child made it through the first day! Your family has some options when school ends. If you are picking up your child, please wait near the flag pole outside of the school gym. When school is over, your child will come through the door to look for you! If you cannot pick up your child right away, don’t worry there are some great options after school. St. Columba School has a Homework Club. Your child can go to a classroom where a teacher is assigned to supervise students who are completing their homework. The teacher can help guide students through their work. This is free and it’s a great way for your child to get a little extra help with challenging subjects. There is also an after school program. If you don't pick up your child, they will be checked in to after school. Here students have supervised play outside. Please be sure to pick up your child no later than 5:30 pm from after school. Go to the school’s website to learn more about these great programs.

What to expect during the First Week of School!

Attendance Line: Uh oh, my child is sick or we are running late! Don’t fret it happens. Please call the attendance line at (970) 828-9356. Leave a message with the school and let us know.

Resource Page of Website: Familiarize yourself with the Resource Page on the St. Columba School website. Here you will find lots of answers to common questions and updated information throughout the year. Basically, most everything you need to know can be found on the website!

Teacher Emails: Look on the St. Columba website for your teacher’s email if you don’t already have it!. What a great way to connect with your chid’s new teacher when you want to check in on something. You might want to send a quick email introducing yourself to the teacher and giving him/her your email!

Homework Routine: Learn what is expected for your child around homework. As your child progresses through elementary and into middle school, they will become more responsible to keeping track of their assignments. You can help by knowing the routine of when homework is assigned, due and guide your child’s learning outside of the classroom. Remember, you are your child’s primary educator!

Friday Focus: You made it through the first week of school! Check out this week’s Friday Focus. Our weekly newsletter will share information celebrating what happened this week and also has important information about upcoming events at St. Columba School. Delivered straight to your inbox, we try our best to make it easy for you to stay on top of everything!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Child’s Class Schedule: St. Columba School offers a number of ‘Specials’ to both elementary and middle school students. Check in with the teacher (or your child) to see on what days their Specials occur.

Service Opportunities: St. Columba School offers many opportunities for parents and family members to give of their time and talent. This is a great time to make a commitment to serve. There is something for everyone! You can serve in classroom reading to students, help prepare lunch with Ms. Gina, chaperone a field trip, or volunteer for a fundraising activity. The possibilities are endless. If you need some inspiration, take a look at our website for more information on how you can serve!

My Student's Progress:  Want to know how your child is doing with their academics. If you don't already have your login information, you can get it from Heidi. Where Can I Pay My Tuition? There is a locked dropbox just inside the main school entrance. It is across from the counter of the office, mounted to the wall. You can drop a check for tuition, school lunches, etc. in this box.

Business Office: Okay, I have a question about my child’s tuition, payments, etc. How do I contact the Business Office? St. Columba School is the largest ministry of our Parish. We share a business office with the Church and the office is located in the Parish Office next to the Hauser Building. You can contact our Business Office Manager, Kelly Gessel by email or phone. The phone number is: (970) 247-0044 and the email address is kgessel@stcolumbacatholic.org. Stop by the Parish Office sometime during the first month and say ‘Hi’ to our Parish staff. This is a great way to not only meet our Business Office Manager, but also Fr. Kevin and the entire team.
